What To Know before you go (May 29 – June 6)
Riverfest is Wichita’s big “everybody shows up” week – downtown energy, food, concerts, family stuff, and lots of wandering along the Arkansas River.
Here’s the practical guide for planning your days (and not getting surprised by the little details).

The one thing you’ll want to handle early: the Riverfest button
Riverfest uses a festival button as admission. It’s good for all nine days and includes concerts.
For 2026, the Riverfest site lists regular pricing as:
- Adult (13+): $20
- Child (6-12): $10
- Ages 5 and under: free
Buttons are typically sold at entrances and at participating QuikTrip locations (and other listed spots).
If you’re the “I hate lines” type, grabbing your button ahead of time is the move.

What Riverfest feels like (and how to pick your “type” of day)
Riverfest isn’t one thing. It’s more like a buffet of Wichita vibes. Most people end up doing it in a few different modes:
1) The “wander and snack” day
You show up with no strict schedule, hit the food court area, people-watch, and let the evening decide what happens.
Bring a water bottle if it’s hot (late May in Wichita can go either way).
2) The “we’re here for the event” day
This is parade night, a specific concert, a contest, or a must-see featured event.
Plan parking and arrival time like you’re going to INTRUST on a busy night – it’s just easier on your mood.
3) The family-friendly early window
If you’ve got kids (or you just like calmer vibes), earlier hours usually feel easier:
shorter lines, less crowd squeeze, and more room to roam.

Local tips that make Riverfest way smoother
Plan for weather whiplash
Late May in Wichita can mean warm afternoons and cooler nights, plus wind that shows up uninvited.
A light layer is your best friend, especially if you’re staying past sunset.
Comfortable shoes win
Riverfest is walking. A lot of walking. This is not the time for “brand new shoes optimism.”
Pick a meeting spot
If you’re going with friends, choose a landmark to regroup (before anyone’s phone hits 2%).
You’ll thank yourself later.
Use the official guide and schedule
Riverfest changes year to year (lineups, times, featured events), so the official map/guide and schedule are the most reliable way to plan.

Where Riverfest happens (in plain English)
Riverfest is centered in downtown Wichita and along the Arkansas River area, with activity zones and entrances depending on the day.
Your best bet is to check the official map/guide before you go so you know:
- where the main entrances are
- where food vendors are clustered
- what time gates close
- where the event you care about actually happens
source.
Quick “first-timer” plan (works every year)
- Pick 1 featured event you actually want to see (parade, concert, contest).
- Grab buttons early if you can.
- Show up once just to wander, snack, and get the feel.
- Do one “night vibe” visit (the energy is different after dark).
